This is a phenominal book! Yes, it is expensive, but for me, it has been worth every penny. If you need a long-term plan, consider this book. A classical education is explained and suggestions are given for the curriculum to use. I don't use all of the materials they suggest, which in fact, they also suggest! I was using some books that are working well for us, and I don't have to change that to implement the ideas in this book. They also have a wonderful website. Pop over and visit it, but do come back!! |

The Well-Trained Mind: A guide to Classical Education at Home by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer |
I love to read - is it obvious?? I started reading very early. On one of my report cards from school, a teacher noted "Marilyn reads too much." What?? How can one read "too much"? I guess it might depend exactly what one was reading. I believe a did read a range of books when I was growing up - they weren't ALL fiction!
Listed on the left are some of my favorite books. Click on the image to read a book review.
Below are the books I am currently reading (or wish I was!). I am working full-time now, in addition to homeschooling and running two home-based business, so I don't have much time to read! |

The Learning Revolution: To change the Way the World Learns by Gordon Dryden and Dr. Jeannette Vos |
I came across this book in a catalogue last year, and it sounded very interesting, so I ordered it. It is a fascinating book! This is the second edition of it, and the catalogue says this book is the world's fastest-selling nonfiction book. If you are interested in how your brain works, and how to use it more efficiently, how to help your children learn faster and better (diet and music, among other things!), then you would probably enjoy this book. If the 600 pages seem intimidating, you can easily skim the entire book in 30 minutes, as the authors have printed every other page with just a key point, in very large type! If this book seems too expensive to buy, the first edition is in our local public library (VIRL), and is probably in most public libraries. You may want your own copy, though, as this is definitely a book you'll want to refer to.
